Plantar Fascitis
Plantar fasciitis is a condition in which the muscles in the sole of the foot become too tight and stiff, causing pain and difficulty in movement.

Symptoms
Plantar fasciitis is increasingly common due to lifestyle and poor footwear choices. The pain occurs in the sole and can run up to the calf depending on how tight the fascia and muscles become. You may experience:
- Mild to severe pain in the calf and foot.
- Difficulty or increasing pain when standing or walking.
- Worsening pain when resting, walking or standing.
- Stiffness or increasing pain in the morning which may reduce with movement.
Causes
Some contributing factors include:
- Standing for too long.
- Footwear that does not provide proper arch support.
- Wearing formal shoes.
Diagnosis
History and physical examinations are usually sufficient. The doctor will assess for pain and tenderness. Tests include:
- X-ray
- MRI
- CT scan
- Blood tests
